7 Up 7 Down is a two-dice game played at Indian fairs, in land casinos in Goa and online. Two dice are rolled and you bet on the total: below 7 (7 Down), above 7 (7 Up) or exactly 7. The two outside bets pay even money and the 7 pays 4 to 1. Online, the best-known version is from KingMidas Games, with a published RTP of 97% and a random Lightning Bonus that boosts payouts.

This guide covers the rules, the exact odds of every bet, why the 7 pays 4 to 1 and not more, how the online versions differ, and why no betting system can beat the game.

How to Play 7 Up 7 Down

  1. Place your chips on one or more of the three areas: less than 7, exactly 7, or more than 7.
  2. The dealer rolls the two dice, usually shaken in a cup or jar.
  3. Add up the two faces. If the total falls in the area you backed, you are paid; otherwise the chips on that area are lost.

That is the whole game. At Deltin’s casinos, if a die lands on top of the other or leans against the jar, the dice are simply rolled again.

Payouts and Exact Odds

Two dice can land 36 ways, all equally likely. Fifteen of them total 2 to 6, six total exactly 7, and fifteen total 8 to 12:

7 Up8 to 1215 in 36 (41.7%)1:1₹200

Worked through, every bet on the standard table returns the same 83.3% of what is staked over time. The outside bets look like a coin toss, but the 7 takes six of the 36 rolls away from both of them, so each wins well under half the time.

Why the 7 Pays 4 to 1

Seven is the most common total with two dice — six ways out of 36, or one roll in six. A payout that simply matched those odds would be 5 to 1. The table pays 4 to 1 instead, and that one-unit gap is exactly where the house edge on the 7 comes from. It works out at the same 83.3% return as the outside bets, so no bet on the board is better value than another.

KingMidas 7 Up 7 Down Online

The online game from KingMidas Games (formerly Kingmaker) uses the same three bets and the same 1:1 and 4:1 payouts, with one addition: the Lightning Bonus. On some rounds the game picks one of the three options at random and boosts what it pays, up to 6×. Those boosts are what lift the game’s published RTP to 97%, well above the 83.3% of the standard table. KingMidas rates its volatility as medium.

KingMidas also makes 7 Up 7 Down Rush, a faster version. It shows payouts as total returns — 2× on over or under and 5× on exactly 7, the same as 1:1 and 4:1 — its Lightning Bonus goes up to 7×, the RTP is again 97%, and KingMidas rates it high volatility.

Strategy, Patterns and “Tricks”

There is no strategy that changes the result. Each roll of fair dice is independent, so a run of 7 Ups makes the next 7 Down no more likely, and apps or videos selling “winning tricks” cannot predict the next roll. Doubling your stake after a loss does not help either: it only makes the losing streaks more expensive. What you can choose is your stake and which bet suits you — the outside bets win often and small, the 7 wins rarely and pays more, and on the standard table all three return the same over time.

How do you play 7 Up 7 Down?

What does 7 Up 7 Down pay?

7 Up and 7 Down each pay 1:1 (even money) and exactly 7 pays 4:1. A winning 100 rupee bet returns 200 on 7 Up or 7 Down and 500 on the 7.

What are the odds in 7 Up 7 Down?

Of the 36 ways two dice can land, 15 total below 7, 6 total exactly 7 and 15 total above 7. So 7 Down and 7 Up each win 41.7% of the time and the 7 wins 16.7% of the time.
