Funky Time is a live game show from Evolution, launched in May 2023 and billed by the studio as its biggest game show since Crazy Time. A presenter spins a 64-segment digital money wheel in a 1970s disco studio; you bet on where it stops. Most segments pay straight away, and twelve of them open one of four bonus games, where the multipliers are guaranteed.

This guide covers the wheel, what each bet pays, how the four bonus games work, the published RTP for every bet spot, and what those numbers mean for the way you play.

The Wheel

The DigiWheel has 64 segments. The letters spell out PLAY, FUNK and TIME, and each of those words appears twice, so there are two segments for every one of the twelve letters. Before each spin the wheel also drops random multipliers onto some segments, which is where most of the big main-game wins come from.

How a Round Works

  1. Place your bets. Bet on the number 1, on any letter, or on any of the four bonus games. Two shortcut buttons help: Bet on 12 Letters places a bet on every letter at once, and Bet on 4 Bonuses covers all four bonus games.
  2. Multipliers are drawn. When betting closes, the DigiWheel assigns random multipliers to random segments.
  3. The wheel spins. The presenter spins it, and the flapper marks the winning segment.
  4. Settlement. If it stops on a 1 or a letter you backed, you are paid that segment’s payout, multiplied by any multiplier sitting on it. If it stops on a bonus segment you backed, you go through to that bonus game; everyone can watch, but only players who bet on it can win.

The Four Bonus Games

Bar

Set at the disco’s bar, with a robot bartender. You pick one of three empty glasses; each glass is then filled with a random multiplier. A single-reel slot spins to reveal one more multiplier, which lands in one of the three glasses and multiplies what is already there. If the Bar segment carried a multiplier from the main wheel, it is applied on top, for every player.

Stayin’ Alive

A ball-drawing machine holds 90 coloured balls, and a 20-level ladder runs from 5× all the way up to 10,000×. You pick a team colour — green, pink or orange — and start with four lives. A ball of your colour moves you up the ladder one or two levels; a black STOP ball costs every player a life. When the last life is gone, you are paid at the level your colour reached.

Disco and VIP Disco

Mr Funky dances across a light-up floor — 37 squares in Disco, 63 in VIP Disco — moving in whichever direction a small eight-segment wheel points. The squares he lands on add their multipliers to your total, and special floor squares double five of the regular multipliers. The round ends when he steps off the edge of the floor.

RTP for Every Bet

The return varies a little by bet spot. All six sit between 95.38% and 95.99%:

Disco95.51%4.49%
Letters95.49%4.51%
Stayin’ Alive95.49%4.51%
VIP Disco95.38%4.62%

The wheel itself shows where the multipliers matter. Paid at its flat 1:1, the number 1 would return 87.50% of what is staked on it; a letter at its flat 25:1 would return 81.25%. The rest of each bet’s RTP is paid by the random multipliers:

Chart: the number 1 returns 87.50% at its flat payout and 95.99% with multipliers; a letter returns 81.25% flat and 95.49% with multipliers
Flat payout against published RTP, per bet spot.

Two things follow. First, no bet spot is a bargain: the spread from best to worst is 0.61 percentage points, so choosing a bet is mostly about how you like to play, not about value. Second, letters and bonus games are streaky. The number 1 wins almost every other spin and pays little; a single letter lands about once in 32 spins, and the VIP Disco about once in 64, so most of what those bets return arrives in a few large hits.

If you already know Crazy Time, the main change is the letters: 24 segments paying 25:1 before any multiplier, which gives the main game more chances at a large win without going through a bonus round. Our Crazy Time guide and MONOPOLY Big Baller guide cover Evolution’s other big shows.

Where the Game Shows Up

Funky Time sits in the live casino under game shows, next to Crazy Time and MONOPOLY Big Baller, rather than among the slots. Operators reviewed here that run Evolution on the live floor:

Playing It Sensibly

A Funky Time round takes well under a minute, and the bonus games make it easy to keep betting “one more spin” to catch the next one. Set a budget for the session before you start and stick to it, set a deposit limit and a session time limit in your account, and use the reality-check and time-out tools a licensed operator provides. Free, confidential support is available at BeGambleAware.org. 18+ only.

Funky Time: frequently asked questions

What is Funky Time?

Funky Time is a live game show from Evolution, launched in May 2023. A presenter spins a 64-segment digital money wheel in a 1970s disco studio, and players bet on the number 1, on letters, or on one of four bonus games.

What is the RTP of Funky Time?

It depends on the bet spot: 95.99% on the number 1, 95.98% on Bar, 95.51% on Disco, 95.49% on letters and on Stayin’ Alive, and 95.38% on VIP Disco.

How many segments does the Funky Time wheel have?

Sixty-four: 28 number 1 segments, 24 letter segments (two for each letter of PLAY, FUNK and TIME) and 12 bonus segments — six Bar, three Disco, two Stayin’ Alive and one VIP Disco.

What do the letters pay in Funky Time?

Each letter pays 25:1, and more if a random multiplier lands on it that round. Each letter has two segments on the wheel, so a single letter comes up about once every 32 spins.

What are the Funky Time bonus games?

Four: Bar, where a robot bartender fills three glasses with multipliers; Stayin’ Alive, a ball draw that climbs a 20-level ladder up to 10,000x; and Disco and VIP Disco, where Mr Funky collects multipliers on a dance floor of 37 or 63 squares.

What is the biggest multiplier in Funky Time?

The Stayin’ Alive ladder goes up to 10,000x, and a multiplier from the main wheel can be applied on top of it. The maximum payout per round is set by the game and the casino; the help screen shows it.

Is there a strategy for Funky Time?

No bet changes the house edge much — every spot returns between 95.38% and 95.99%. What your choice changes is how often you win: the number 1 wins almost every other spin for small amounts, while letters and bonus games win rarely but pay more.

What is the difference between Funky Time and Crazy Time?

Funky Time uses a 64-segment digital wheel with the number 1, twelve letters paying 25:1 and random multipliers every round. Crazy Time uses a 54-segment wheel with the numbers 1, 2, 5 and 10 and a top-slot multiplier. Both have four bonus games.
